a week at the outer banks

We spent the first week of September on vacation with my family in the Outer Banks. It was swell. Perfectly perfect in every way. You couldn't imagine a more relaxing vacation. Rain was forecasted all week. It only rained once for a little over an hour. I was nervous about Jason hanging out with my family all week. I think Jason had more fun than I did. I watched Shark week reruns the week prior to vacationing, but in spite of my absolute terror, no one got eaten. As my dad would say, we had more fun than a one-legged man at a kicking contest or something like that...

My brother, Steve, and his girlfriend, Alicia, could only stay the first weekend. But, we were able to sneak away with them for a late Sunday lunch and poking around town.

Jason rented an ocean kayak for the week and, needless to say, I believe we are in the market for an ocean kayak. Our friends, Gabe and Ari, came down for Labor Day and they had a hayday kayaking. I only went out once and we kayaked through a school of dolphins... They were doing flips and making little dolphin chatter, but the only thing that registered in my mind was that I was surrounded by dorsal fins, aka SHARKS. I was way too terrified to appreciate nature. But, once I was safe on dry land, I thought it was awesome.
The rest of the week was spent reading, tanning, swimming, biking, running, eating... All those simple, charming vacay type things.

It was great to relax and spending time with family.

Did I mention my I love the beach?

He loves it too. It's his natural environment.

Mom and I mastered syncronized kayaking... We figure it will be an Olympic sport in a few years. We only kayak on dry land, however.

These grand folks came up toward the end of the week. Nana and Poppy. Loved seeing them!

Emily, my awesome little sis, is turning into something of a photographer.

She is also turning into something of a babe.
Anywho, she was kind enough to take us on the beach for a shoot and got this shot of Jason and I that I absolutely adore.

It was sad to leave, but hopefully next year will be equally as fun. :)
